Marvin is 24 years old and lives alone in San Juan del Sur where he is an apprentice auto mechanic. He lives in a small home that he built atop a hill just outside of town. Although he has no running water he does enjoy electricity that allows him to keep a light bulb lit.
Marvin's ambition is to learn English so that he might be able to better himself by providing services to tourists. In the past he has been a successful student and is very much looking forward to attending Ave Maria University in San Marcos an hour ride north of San Juan del Sur. The University has a 12 level English program that is run each Saturday. One level takes approximately 3 months to complete so that students can complete all levels in approximately 3 years. Graduates of the program are proficient in English.
The cost of sponsoring Marvin is $1220 annually. This includes tuition, school supplies, bus transportation and meal money as well as an administration fee of $122. The A Jean Brugger foundation manages payment to the University and will monitor Marvin's success in his English classes. As one of his sponsors you will receive e-mail messages from Marvin as well as from us letting you know how well Marvin is doing in school.
